Biodiversity-friendly businesses and impact investors came together in Peru

Sustainable entrepreneurs across Peru are connecting with impact investors, successfully securing $13.8 million to fund eco-friendly projects.
The latest BioInvest matchmaking event, supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI), brought together innovative bio-businesses and socially conscious investors to drive biodiversity conservation and economic growth.
In November 2024, Peru’s Ministry of Environment (MINAM), with support from the IKI, successfully hosted the third edition of its matchmaking event under the BioInvest initiative. The event linked 36 eco and bio-businesses from 15 regions with 13 national and international investors, unlocking financing opportunities worth $13.8 million for projects that merge biodiversity conservation with economic development.
Reflection of Peru’s rich biodiversity
Participants showcased a wide array of sustainable products, from coffee and cacao to carbon credits and ecotourism, reflecting Peru’s rich biodiversity. Lima, Junín, and San Martín stood out among the regions represented, underscoring their contributions to the country’s growing green economy.
This achievement built on the success of the Impact Investment Readiness Program earlier in 2024. Conducted from March to July, the program strengthened the entrepreneurial and financial capacities of eco-businesses, providing 50 participants – including companies, cooperatives, and associations – with the tools needed to engage impact investors effectively.
Supported by GIZ, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Profonanpe (Fund for the Promotion of Peru's Natural Protected Areas), and Promperú (Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism), this year’s matchmaking event exemplified MINAM’s commitment to fostering partnerships that advance biodiversity protection and sustainable economic growth. It highlighted how targeted support can empower local businesses to drive positive environmental and social change.
