HoMethan green story: Sandy's farm in Grenada
Sherwin Sandy and his family run an off-grid farm with agro-processing
and catering business in Grenada. Mr. Sandy is a trained chef and follows an
integrated production cycle, leading way in organic farming. He used to carry heavy LPG cylinders on his bicycle up to the top
of the hill farm. But since April 2017, Mr. Sandy enjoys of his
continuous on-site gas production to process crops (e.g. plantain chips,
dried ginger, cassava bread, etc.). In addition, a small biogas-powered
generator and a solar panel meet farm’s and home’s electricity needs.
The HoMethan biogas plant is up and running since April 2017. It has been installed as part of the MacBioS project which seeks to create markets for small-scale Biogas Systems in Grenada. This project is in turn part of the larger IKI project Reform of the Electricity Sector to support Climate Policy in Grenada (G-RESCP).
