Sustainable Development of Coastal Protected Forests (Wetlands) in Bac Lieu Province

To improve coastal protection, the project was planting new coastal forests and regenerating existing ones in Viet Nam’s Bac Lieu Province. This included establishing conservation zones for mangrove forests, which were then managed jointly by the local community and the provincial government. At the same time, the project was generating alternative sources of income for coastal communities, which do not damage the coastal forests. This made people less dependent on the coastal forests with the result that they can use them more sustainably. The project also trained local government employees and relevant institutions in the management of coastal areas.
