Pilot testing of Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) criteria and indicators for sustainable bioenergy in targeted developing countries

The project tested indicators in order to monitor the sustainability of the production and usage of various forms of bioenergy in Indonesia and Colombia. The indicators were developed by the 'Global Bioenergy Partnership' (GBEP). The project improved the capabilities of the governments concerned to monitor the environmental, social and economic impacts of their bioenergy production and use, and to create a robust policy for sustainable bioenergy development. The project also gathered available data on the topic of bioenergy in partner countries and used a participative process to develop measurement methods and strategies tailored to the particular country. Training and regional workshops enabled governments and scientists to independently monitor and evaluate the indicators.
