National Land Monitoring and Information System for a transparent NDC reporting

To ensure meaningful reporting on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that are created by deforestation, suitable types of data need to be collected and monitored over time. To achieve this, one of the project aims was to support the use of an existing software tool for forest monitoring, which has been developed in cooperation with Google Outreach. The project scope also included a new piece of software for landscape and restoration monitoring. The software complemented partner country monitoring systems. This will improve the monitoring of NDC and REDD+ measures as well as greenhouse gas reporting. The expanded monitoring system will also provide an important basis for implementing REDD+ instruments and the preparation of reports to the UNFCCC. Training for around 400 domain specialists was targeting knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer about the tool. In this way, the project helped 22 partner countries to reduce deforestation emissions (REDD+)./
