Marine and Coastal Protected Areas in the Coral Triangle

The project aimed at supporting the establishment of two large Marine Protected Areas in the Savu Sea (Indonesia) and two more in Kimbe Bay in the Bismarck Sea (Papua New Guinea). The objective was to increase the regions’ adaptability to climate change. The approach combined science-based marine protection with community-based measures geared to the needs of the local population. In this way, the project aimed at preserving a robust ecosystem that provides the basis for the sustainable development of neighbouring states.
