State of implementation/results

• Project completed.-- IMPACT was working with a country support request mechanism in order to react and respond to direct inquiries and needs of countries in the target regions. For example, through the mechanism the project supported Belize in developing a national climate action plan and several Pacific countries received support in drafting applications for the Green Climate Fund (GCF). • The projects associated regional scientists, who were permanently on site in the three target regions, supported the establishment and strengthening of scientific networks and capacities in and between the regions. In addition, the regional scientists were the central contact points for the country request mechanism and support the implementation of concrete projects on the ground.
• To complement the country support request mechanism and support the enhancement of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in 2020, Climate Analytics joined the NDC-Partnership in late 2019 as an Associate Member. Through the NDC-P’s newly launched Climate Action Enhancement Package (CAEP) initiative, IMPACT supported the initiative’s aim to fast-track support to member countries, in order to increase ambition and implement NDCs. Climate Analytics responded to multiple country requests and was selected by six countries in target regions, to support the enhancement of their NDCs within 2020 and 2021. • IMPACT implementation partners organised events to present state-of-the-art science and hands-on tools to government officials, scientists, negotiators and Ministers from the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Group. The aim of the events was for countries to make better use of the findings and tools for national and regional strategy and project developments, as well as to be in a better position to support their interests with scientific justification in international negotiations and other relevant fora.
• After focusing on the approved Special Reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), in the Caribbean and the Pacific regions, IMPACT associates and stakeholders analysed the main points of the Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere (SROCC: www.ipcc.ch/…), while in West Africa the focus was on the report on Climate Change and Land (SRCCL: www.ipcc.ch/…), the project continues supporting SIDS and LDCs on the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report review cycle in 2020-2022.
• In addition, IMPACT provided scientific and technical support for representatives of SIDS and LDCs in key climate-related negotiations (e.g. United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conferences, IPCC Plenaries, GCF Board Meetings).
