From Bean to Bar: Strengthening Vietnamese cocoa and fruit farmers’ climate-resilience and livelihoods through organic farming

Viet Nam’s forests and biodiversity are amongst the most threatened by land use and climate change in the world. Due to urban migration of men, women and ethnic minorities are disproportionally represented on the frontlines of Viet Nam’s agricultural systems which are dominated by unsustainable monocultures of cash crops. However, Viet Nam also has high potential for sustainable production of cocoa and tropical fruits. Thus, the project supports smallholder farmers by developing organic and deforestation-free cocoa and fruit plantations. This is achieved through knowledge transfer on diversified cultivation methods and expanded value chains with special attention given to women’s participation. Longstanding experience of the partners, their existing relationships with local processors and producer network will serve as pillars offering unique synergy to achieve, replicate, and upscale this project across the region and beyond.
