Climate-Resilient Eastern Caribbean Marine Managed Areas Network (ECMMAN)
The project established a climate-resilient Eastern Caribbean Marine Managed Areas Network (ECMMAN) in cooperation with six countries. The protection given to the designated areas ensures that sensitive marine ecosystems remain intact and are thus better able to withstand the stresses of climate change. Activities included enlarging and improving existing marine protected areas, promoting active involvement of the local population, and improving data and information systems as well as the network's financial and institutional sustainability. These resulted in implementation of key elements of the Strategic Plan for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The new Marine Conservation Corridor helps to preserve biodiversity, protect the livelihoods of the population, promote food security and sustainable tourism, and reduce the vulnerability of coastal communities to the risks of climate change.

State of implementation/results
- Project completed
- Since January 2014, the Advisory and Coordination Committee (ACC) has been meeting every six months. The Committee comprises representatives from all implementation partners as well as the national contact officers from the six target countries.
- A training workshop on effective ways of generating awareness took place in Saint Lucia with participants from all of the six target countries. Subsequently, six-month campaigns on raising awareness of environmental issues in marine and coastal regions were run in all six countries.
- A meeting for selected fishermen from all of the six countries to share their experience and improve their leadership skills was organised in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
- In each of the six countries, it was possible to conclude appropriate agreements with the local NGOs involved for the initial round of small project funding.
- The two miles radius of sea water around the St. Kitts and Nevis coastline was declared as the “St. Kitts and Nevis Marine Management Area”.
- Environmental data from previous reef assessment processes, which used various collection methods, were compiled and analysed. A training workshop on marine and socio-economic investigation methods was conducted for representatives from all the target countries.
- The CaribNode regional information system was launched in cooperation with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and offers its users various instruments for collecting and processing environmental data from the marine sector. National data managers received initial training on using CaribNode in the scope of a conference on geographical information systems.
- The first ever Eastern Caribbean coral reef report cards on the health status of coral reefs were launched on World Oceans Day, June 08, 2016.
- Benthic nearshore and coastal marine habitat maps have now been created for all the ECMMAN countries.
