Climate and resource protection scholarship programme for young professionals from developing and emerging countries (phase III)
International experts from science and practice are greatly interested in Germany as an attractive location for research and further education. A transfer of knowledge and methods to other countries also bolsters the exchange of information about climate-related issues. To further expand this exchange, the project is developing long-term cooperation with German and international partners for young professionals, deepening and consolidating the cooperation with their specialist colleagues in Germany. The project also integrates the sponsored experts into the international network of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. By transferring the climate and resource protection knowledge they acquired in Germany, the fellows make a direct and indirect contribution to a more sustainable, economic and social development in their countries of origin through their policy advice and research results.

State of implementation/results
- From 10 to 12 September 2024, this year's selection conference for the 2025/26 cohort of the International Climate Protection Fellowship (ICP) took place as a hybrid event in Bonn. Prof Holm Tiessen, former ICP committee member, gave a keynote speech at the conference on the topic of ‘International Climate Protection Fellowship - What is in it?’. Two alumni of the programme also reported on their activities. During the conference, 20 fellows were selected, 10 of whom were women. A total of 75 applications had been received by the application deadline in February, an increase of 27 per cent compared to the previous year. The 20 scholarship holders of the 15th year will start their stay in spring 2025.
- The online information event originally planned for August as part of Humboldt Discoveries was postponed to October as the programme announcement originally scheduled for mid-August was slightly delayed. The 2026/27 ICP programme is now expected to be announced in the second half of September.
