Organic products for biodiversity
Moldova was once considered "the orchard of the Soviet Union". The fertile black soil was the bedrock for about a quarter of the fruit and vegetable production for the entire Soviet Union. Even today, agriculture is the main industry of the Republic. However, the crops are - after decades of pesticide use and monoculture production - less and less profitable. The solution could be organic agriculture. The NGO ProRuralInvest wants a switch to bioproducts - which are also demanded in the European Union. The change has effects for Moldova: better environmental protection, more biodiversity and a growing environmental awareness.
