Pakin is an atoll island located about 30 miles northwest of Micronesia´s capitol Pohnpei. It is surrounded entirely by coral reefs. Because of its remoteness self-reliance is particularly important. People on Pakin raise pigs, who play an important cultural role. But roaming freely they are the cause of destruction of crops and a big problem for the farmers on the island.

A film by Douglas Kusto, Music by Parallel Park - "Surf Nordisk". Special thanks to Diego Maipi and Anastatia Maipi.

Produced and edited by Liz Witham and Ken Wentworth of Film Truth Productions as part of a Film Truth Workshops presentation for The Nature Conservancy in partnership with the Conservation Society of Pohnpei and the Micronesia Conservation Trust.
