Globally, over US$820 billion is needed yearly to restore and protect ecosystems at a scale that can avert a planetary crisis that scientists are describing as the 6th Mass Extinction—with over a million plants and species facing extinction because of the impacts of human activity.

BIOFIN has helped governments catalyze US$ 600 million and unlock over US$ 1 billion in funding for biodiversity protection. BIOFIN was launched in 2012 and supports over 130 countries in designing and implementing national biodiversity finance plans.
