El Niño begins - warming in the North Atlantic as a consequence?

Extreme weather conditions in very different regions of our world are related to the climate phenomenon El Niño . How exactly does this climatic phenomenon occur? And is it also responsible for the unusual warming of the North Atlantic?  In an interview with rbb, Lena Petersen talks to B-EPICC scientist Josef Ludescher from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research about these questions. Josef Ludescher is researching to develop precise prediction models for El Niño.
