Working with nature to adapt to a changing climate
With support from the International Climate Initiative (IKI), a new e-learning course on Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) was launched at the beginning of October.
Together with its partners from IUCN and IISD, IKI’s Global Project on Mainstreaming EbA led the planning, coordination and quality assurance of the course development and production.
The course already has more than 2,000 enrolments, with numbers continuously increasing.
Free of charge and flexible
The free, self-paced course hosted on the online learning platform edX.org features nine units comprised of video lectures, case studies, quizzes and handouts. It equips learners with transferable and replicable skills in designing and implementing EbA initiatives by offering targeted training on key principles, risk assessments, monitoring and governance.
A core focus of the course lies in four cross-cutting topics – gender, governance, local and Indigenous knowledge, and biodiversity – which are addressed both in independent modules and throughout other course units.
This course is aimed at decision-makers in public and private organisations, professionals who may not be familiar with EbA but who work in a related field, civil society organisations, actors at community, national and global scales, early-career EbA professionals, current students, university faculty and EbA practitioners from both the Global North and Global South.
