Promoting mitigation solutions through knowledge share
IKI interface project for Central America and the Caribbean coordinates a new knowledge database for global solutions to mitigate climate change, presented at COP27.
The knowledge platform PANORAMA Solutions for a healthy planet aims to document and share examples of inspiring, replicable solutions across a range of conservation and sustainable development topics, enabling cross-sectoral learning and inspiration.
Since November, a new community the PANORAMA Mitigation is available; promoting solutions and best practices that help mitigate the climate crisis on a broad range of topics, sectors, and actors. Solutions provided contribute to reduce, capture, store, or remove greenhouse gases that lead to global warming and climate change.
The knowledge platform was also a topic of discussion at the launch event for the Global Landscape Forum's GLF Climate conference, which was held in parallel with the COP27.
Kristin Vorbeck, Deputy Head of the Unit for United Nations, 2030 Agenda, Developing and Emerging Countries; Environmental aspects of international climate and energy policy at the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), stated in her opening remarks at the launch event:
“A lot of valuable experiences have already been made and offer highly interesting insights which deserve to be shared with a broad community. PANORAMA has grown to be the key platform for sharing valuable experiences, lessons learned and success factors when it comes to designing and implementing projects for a healthy planet. The German government appreciates the efforts to complement the existing communities with the ones that address mitigation. We encourage a broad variety of stakeholders to participate and contribute to this new community.”
The platform: PANORAMA Solutions for a healthy planet
Currently, the platform includes 1198 solutions from 869 solution providers from the entire world and from a wide variety of stages and sizes. We now have 11 interrelated communities led by 12 partners.
The platform is supported by BMUV, the Global Environment Facility, the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment and implemented by a variety of partners, including GIZ, IUCN, Grid Arendal, United Nations Development Programme, World Bank, and others.
The community: PANORAMA Mitigation
PANORAMA Mitigation is coordinated by the IKI interface project for Central America and the Caribbean. The project’s mandate includes technical and advisory services provided to Costa Rica to accompany the country on its path towards decarbonisation, as well as fostering knowledge exchange among stakeholders in the region.
The new community is open to anyone interested in sharing their solutions, including but not limited to cooperation agencies, private or public sector, academia, or others. Examples of relevant solutions may be successful mitigation actions in a community or region, new or enhanced mechanisms for financing climate action, relevant capacity-building measures for target groups, strategies to involve key groups in relevant decision-making processes, communication or awareness campaigns, among others.
