A new study published by two IKI projects has reviewed successful approaches to climate protection and shared the results internationally.

Many projects around the world are developing and implementing approaches aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. But which approaches have proven effective? How can they be scaled up? And what can the different initiatives learn from one another? These are key questions needed to advance global climate protection.

Two projects of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) – the International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV and the UNDP Low Emission Capacity Building Programme – have picked up on these questions and analysed 21 climate change mitigation measures from different countries. The focus was placed primarily on projects addressing low-emission development strategies (LEDS), nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs) and systems for measurement, reporting and verification (MRV). The study describes ambitious and practical policy approaches as well as concrete activities aimed at greenhouse gas reduction. It is also considering the experiences collected during the development and implementation of these activities, and providing recommendations on transferring the approaches presented here. This information should facilitate an international and reciprocal learning process and thereby substantially contribute to global reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

The analysis was conducted by a consortium consisting of Ecofys, the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ENC), Instituto Centroamericano de Administración de Empresas (INCAE) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in cooperation with many IKI projects being conducted on the ground.
