IKI supports the Ambition Initiative with 100 million euros to finance NAMA Facility projects.

On 12 December 2020, the Paris Agreement celebrates its fifth anniversary. In tandem with the anniversary, the NAMA (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action) Facility launches its "Ambition Initiative".

The NAMA Facility Ambition Initiative will support countries who plan to increase their emissions reduction plans, known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), ahead of COP26, and gear toward a carbon-neutral economy. The German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), will contribute 100 million euros through International Climate Initiative (IKI). With an additional 70 million euros from the British government and four million euros from the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), 174 million euros will be available for project funding. The NAMA Facility is already delivering ambitious climate action across a diverse range of countries and sectors; from electric mobility, coffee production, low-carbon farming to energy-efficient housing. NAMA Facility’s projects demonstrate that climate action and economic growth go hand in hand.

Applications open from 12 December 2020

As from 12 December 2020, the initiative will invite project applications for a combination of technical assistance and climate finance, to enable partner countries to implement their enhanced NDCs, while strengthening their economies and their resilience to future challenges.

To support applicants during the Ambition Initiative, the Technical Support Unit provides all the necessary application materials on the NAMA Facility website. To support applicants, three online-seminars will be held to introduce the Ambition Initiative and guide applicants throughout the project outline development process. The first online seminar will be held on 3 February 2021.

The Ambition Initiative application closes on 31 May 2021 at 15:00 hrs CEST.
