Mitigation Action Facility launches its new call for projects 2025
The Mitigation Action Facility (MAF) brought together leading climate experts and decision-makers at a high-impact networking event at COP29. The event highlighted MAF’s progress in sectoral decarbonisation and explored future opportunities for collaboration in the drive toward global climate action.
The gathering focused on MAF’s achievements in its key priority sectors: industry, transport, and energy. In a significant show of support, the primary donors to MAF reaffirmed their commitment to funding climate initiatives aimed at accelerating decarbonisation solutions.
Peter Dale, Head of Global Sector Transitions & Joint Head of Breakthrough Agenda Secretariat at the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, announced the seven ambitious projects advancing to the Detailed Preparation Phase following the 2024 Call for Projects. He also launched the Facility’s 2025 Call for Projects. Philipp Behrens from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) highlighted MAF’s role in implementing NDC 3.0, emphasising the power of leveraging finance to do so.
One of the standout initiatives showcased was the PotencializEE project in Brazil, which is empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to adopt energy-efficient practices. Through innovative financing models and local partnerships, MAF has played a crucial role in transforming Brazil’s energy efficiency market and in supporting SMEs access investment for sustainable growth.
The networking event also underscored MAF’s commitment to fostering partnerships that scale low-carbon solutions globally. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with potential collaborators, exchange insights, and discuss strategies for replicating successful climate solutions across borders. As MAF continues to advance the global decarbonisation agenda, the event provided a crucial platform for sharing knowledge, strengthening partnerships, and charting a path forward toward a sustainable, low-carbon future.
“We believe that collaboration is key to tackling the pressing issue of sectoral emissions,” said Soeren David, Head of the Technical Support Unit at MAF. “This event is an opportunity to strengthen ties and continue our collective push for climate resilience and industrial sustainability.”
About the Mitigation Action Facility
The Mitigation Action Facility is a go-to platform driving climate action across sectors. Established in 2012 as a multi-donor, grant-based programme, the Facility provides technical support and climate finance for mitigation projects. Germany’s Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) is one of the main donors of the MAF, providing funds through the International Climate Initiative (IKI) since the establishment of the Facility. As a multi-donor initiative, the MAF is a commitment of the IKI to multilateralism and joint efforts for climate action.
