A song against climate change
'Can’t do this alone' - Eclipse, Swipe & Avonni, three young men from Grenada – sing to raise awareness of the effects of climate change. An IKI project produced a music video of the song and is using it in an information campaign.
'Climate change is rising and right now lives are demising' – is the first line of the powerful chorus of 'Can't do this alone'. The song is sung by Jevon 'Avonni' Langaigne, Elon 'Eclipse' Cambridge and Edison 'Swipe' Thomas, three young Grenadian men who originally recorded the song back in 2012 for a music competition on disaster preparedness organised by the French Red Cross. The project 'Grenada – Pilot Programme for an Integrated Adaptation Strategy' funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) became aware of the song and produced a music video of it. The programme is being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The video was filmed at different locations in Grenada that are at risk as a result of climate change. Grenada's environment ministry and GIZ published it on 15 October 2014. The video immediately attracted a great deal of attention: there was news coverage of it, it was shown on a number of different television stations, and the young singers have been invited to appear on television.

The IKI programme is now using the music video for a far-reaching campaign to draw attention to climate change and its effects, designed to target schools, local authorities, cultural festivals and international environment days. A fundamental understanding of the causes and effects of climate change is a key factor in the programme’s cross-cutting approach: it aims to empower each country to achieve preparedness for climate change on all levels. To this end, the project works closely with partners in the countries' governments and public service and with individual local authorities. Stakeholders work together to develop a cross-cutting adaptation strategy and to start implementing practical activities. For example, the programme has set up a Community Adaptation Fund to finance local adaptation measures.
