Restoring the Forgotten Landscapes: A High-Level Dialogue on Funding Grasslands, Savannahs, and Rangelands

The event highlights the critical importance of grasslands, savannahs, and rangelands for people, agriculture, nature, and climate, addressing their systematic undervaluation and widespread degradation globally. It emphasizes the urgent need for action, particularly with the international commitment to restore one billion hectares of degraded land by 2030, much of which will involve grassland ecosystems. The event aligns with growing momentum, including the upcoming International Year of Rangelands & Pastoralists (2026) and IUCN resolutions, to accelerate protection and restoration efforts. Its goal is to unite countries, civil society, and funding bodies to discuss strategies and mobilize resources for sustainable management, restoration, and conservation under the framework of the three Rio Conventions.
