Fighting Climate Change and Loss of Biodiversity

The significant proliferation of environmental crimes is causing serious negative impact on climate change and biodiversity loss at a global scale. Their devastating consequences can be observed in five major areas: fisheries, forestry, mining, pollution and wildlife. The objective of this project is to enhance law enforcement efforts and international cooperation to detect and disrupt environmental crimes, while also exploring pathways to facilitate the engagement from civil society that may collaborate with law enforcement authorities via the detection and reporting of suspected illicit activities that could pose a threat to environmental security. This will be achieved through a series of initiatives that will aim at strengthening the law enforcement capabilities and operational actions of project beneficiary countries, while increasing the availability and exchange of criminal data and intelligence to enhance transnational investigations of environmental crimes.
