Multiple benefits through combining solar energy and agriculture

Armenia's pursuit of energy independence has led to competition with agriculture due to the large land requirements of solar plants. This project implements an agrivoltaic pilot plant in the municipality of Jermuk, combining energy and food production. The pilot plant helps to reduce climate emissions, lower energy dependence, improve land-use efficiency, enhance agricultural production and food security, and promote regional development. Key element is a ground-mounted solar power plant with an annual production of 34,155 kilowatt hours. Training on sustainable energy, climate change, and project development, as well as the analysis and selection of suitable plant varieties, are part of the project activities. Direct beneficiaries are 150 young people and women from five regions. Knowledge dissemination is foreseen throughout the region, ensuring access to project results and guidance from project staff to leverage the potential of agrivoltaics.
