Operational plans for climate-resilient Ejidos communities

The mountainous region of Valle de Bravo-Amanalco is rich in biodiversity and part of the Cutzamala water system, which supplies Mexico City with water. Rising temperatures, forest fires, and activities such as deforestation and agriculture put pressure on the ecosystem and lead to water scarcity. The project integrates climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation into the land use processes of six ejidos. Ejidos are areas that belong to the community. The members of the ejidos are allowed to use the land for agricultural purposes, but do not have individual land rights. The project strengthens the technical and management capacity of the ejidos through training, workshops, and participatory territorial planning. Main beneficiaries of the project are the members of the ejidos as well as approximately 5,000 inhabitants of the region. Through collaboration with local governments, the project's outcomes are integrated into municipal development plans.
