REN21 – Strategic intelligence to build renewable energy leadership
The project develops strategic information and provides knowledge that enables actors in the field of renewable energies to work together strategically. The further development of the Mapping Tool serves this purpose. The Mapping Tool reviews published documents and visualises the connections between authors, organisations and thematic fields. This makes current trends and developments within the network visible. Furthermore, it promotes the exchange on renewable energies with relevant decision-makers. The project enables the renewable energy community to expand by identifying and reaching out to individuals and organisations that can strategically support the use of renewable energy. It provides a space for the community to come together and develop joint activities to strengthen renewable energy leadership.

State of implementation/results
- REN21 seeks to strategically broaden the renewables community, by identifying key-players and providing them with a safe space to connect and discuss. The RENdez-vous events series are an opportunity to share different perspectives, examine potential blind spots and strengthen voices. Since August 2022, REN21 was able to convene its community around various events:
- Africa’s Renewable Energy Voices: What the world needs to hear at COP27 - Sept. 2022.
- Africa’s Renewable Energy Momentum: Where does it stand post-COP27? – Dec. 2022.
- What roles can renewables play in securing Africa’s food future? – Jan. 2023.
- Africa Lunch Event at the Spanish International Renewable Energy Conference (SPIREC) – Feb. 2023 in Madrid.
- What role do renewables play in energising Africa’s healthcare? - March 2023.
- Global RENdez-vous series on the tripling up of renewable energy capacity / doubling down energy efficiency target – Oct. 2023 to Jan. 2024.
- Global RENdez-vous Series on Building Resilient Economies and Societies with Renewables - Jan. to Feb. 2025.
- REN21 provides its members with strategic intelligence material building on insights from its own artificial intelligence (AI) based “Influence Mapping Tool” and tracking different topics in the renewable energy sphere.
- In efforts to share valuable knowledge with its community and inform discussions and debates, REN21 has published several Strategic Intelligence Briefs since 2023:

- Renewables for Economic Resilience, December 2024.
- Renewables for Social & Societal Resilience, December 2024.
- REN21 has welcomed 22 additional members from January 2023 to December 2024, among them NGOs, governments and industry associations.
